* Non-committee Role
We owe an enormous amount of gratitude to Life Members Karen Simonsen and Alistair Buchanan who have both officially stepped down from their long-standing committee roles. They will both have a new commitment to the SLACers Running Club that they established last season and will work alongside Seaford Little Athletics to deliver a program for all ages. Once again, we thank them for everything they have done for our centre over the years and their future contributions to the club. They will always still be around, and we would not have it any other way.
I would like to acknowledge all our end of season award winners. We had some outstanding results throughout the season. Congratulations to all the athletes that will be announced and celebrated over the month of September via email and our private centre Facebook group.
On a positive note, we applied and received a $1000 grant as part of the Victorian community sport sector short term survival package. This money will go towards what we need to introduce ourselves as a Covid-19 safe club. We have introduced the new roles of CSO Covid-19 safety officers. Myself, Emily McLellan, Dean Lambert and Katie Scroggie will work closely in the coming months to ensure the safety of our athletes and families.
We are currently in discussions with LA Vic regarding return to sport protocols and our affiliation is up to date and ready to go. We have also been approved to receive baskets and a prize pack from our major Sponsor for LA Vic - Coles community sport. They provided us with a grant last season for the discus net and the delicious bananas and apples that you eat during the summer season.
Unfortunately, the State Cross Country Championships were officially cancelled, which would have been held today had it gone ahead. This points our athletes towards next season, therefore needs to remain our focus.
Little Athletics Victoria has been conducting their annual conference all week online whereby a few of our Seaford LAC committee members have been attending. Rachelle and I also attending the virtual LA Vic AGM last Sunday. Today is the final day of the conference and the live awards tonight from 6 pm via LA VIC, which I encourage you all to view, as normally it is a closed formal dinner. Last season we won the Best Cross-Country Centre and a few seasons ago the marketing award.
I would like to thank all our families, parents, athletes, coaches and volunteers for all their help and support so far at SLAC. I look forward to seeing you over the coming months and I invite you all to share with me your recent experience at SLAC and offer any feedback that would be beneficial to the club.
I look forward to guiding SLAC through an incredibly challenging time and look forward to the Season that awaits as the SLAC President. As soon as we get the go-ahead from Little Athletics Victoria to start the summer season, we will communicate this to you all.
Stay safe! Best regards,
